Join us at the Alumni Day
and celebrate the UG’s
82nd lustrum

Because you – finally want to meet your old study friends again – haven’t been to Groningen for so long – want to learn everything about mental imagery – never had lunch on the Academieplein – find robots a bit scary – get so happy about Groningen in the spring – want to attend a lecture with your favourite teacher again – kept getting lost during the KEI introduction week – want to be the first to know who will be Taku Mutezo’s successor – are curious whether your old favourite pub still exists – enjoy having everyday conversations – hope that <fill in the blank> will also come – would like to see the auditorium in the Academy Building, and the new Röling building! – think back often enough about your student days...

The University of Groningen celebrates its 410 years existence.
You are cordially invited to the finale of the lustrum celebration:
the Alumni Day on Saturday, May 25.

There are so many reasons to go: an interesting lecture, a pleasant lunch on the Academieplein, a tour through the city center past bars, the university and all kinds of mini-colleges and – of course – you can finally catch up with your old study friends or teachers.

The Alumni Day is part of the 82nd lustrum of the RUG. Of course
you are very welcome to attend the other anniversary activities.

Alumni Day
Saturday, May 25

Does a German Shephard have pointy ears or round ears? There is a good change you're using mental imagery to answer this question: you create a picture of a German Shephard dog in your head and inspect the shape of its ears. We use mental imagery to quickly perceive the world around us and to imagine possibilities in the future.

Mental imagery can also get out of control, resulting in hallucinations. How this is possible is becoming increasingly clear from brain research, conducted in Groningen, among other places. Finally, mental imagery can be used to improve sports performance and promote our mental health. Recent examples from scientific research show that the power of mental imagery is not imagination, but reality.

The Alumni Day lecture by professor of cognitive neuropsychiatry André Aleman is about this and much more.

Between 12:00 and 13:00 it is time for a joint lunch on the Academieplein, epicenter of the student city of Groningen, right in front of the Academy Building. A great opportunity to meet your study friends, reminisce and catch up.

Lunch Academy Square (Academieplein)

It's like joining the first years introduction, the KEI, again. But differently. Go on a lecture tour visiting your favorite teachers. The group leader will lead you to various pubs and university buildings in the city center, where UG researchers discuss a wide variety of topics.

How can we create a computer that works like our brain? Will robots solve the workforce shortage? Say “apple”! What does Europe mean for the regions? How do you deal with differences of opinion in this polarized world? And much more. Pleasant ánd useful! All faculties, the university library, the university museum and the Ubbo Emmius Foundation/Eric Bleumink Fellowship are represented in the program.

We hope to meet you at Saturday 25 May!
