ALUMNUS MAKES MUSIC

For over 35 years, the hardcore punk rockers of RAT PATROL have been playing in the same line-up, consisting of Henk ‘Henry’ Mulder (chemistry 1988, PhD 1995) and Roelof Oldenburger (English 1987). ‘Nothing Comes From Nothing’ and a true Grunn Rockumentary (rockumentary.nl) were recently released.

For many years, he has been an esteemed cabaret performer and presenter of the OOG radio programme Glasnost, which is about art and science. But now, ANNE JAN TOONSTRA (medicine 2007) is finally coming out as a musician, too, with a debut album in English. Folksy, theatrical, and hushed.

In ‘Nhung exposes herself’, award-winning theatre-maker, writer, and actress NHUNG DAM (psychology 2007) puts the focus on music for the first time. She even learnt to play bass guitar. From Vietnamese punk to Dutch songs.

His delightfully dirty band GREEN HORNET, with fellow alumnus Olaf Veenstra (art history 1996), has unfortunately not released any new songs for a long time. Fortunately, ‘organ grinder’ André Dodde (history 1999) did release another pumping and steamy EP with DAS AUDIOCOMBO last year: ‘The Dirt On The Ground’.

Savine Warmelink (BA law 2018), SAVINE for short, made an important decision last year: she left the legal world for good in order to pursue music. It is a ‘Leap of faith’, she sings. Incidentally, the singer-songwriter, who combines soul, pop, and jazz, is still campaigning for musicians' rights at BUMA/STEMRA.

In this 3rd edition of Spotified with UG alumni: old artists and newcomers who have actually also been around for quite a few years.
