Biobased Art & Design

Lianne Regtuit, a graduate of the Minerva Academy in Groningen, combines art, nature and science in her work. She explores bacteria and fungi: organisms that often remain invisible, yet are of inestimable value. In her work, she explores their underappreciated beauty and demonstrates how decay can transform into something new. Her work emerges from living spores, collected from everyday environments. These organisms paint her canvases of nutrient-rich agar, creating complex patterns, colours and textures. Through her creations, she invites us to reconnect with nature.

Work by Lianne Regtuit is on display at the University Museum until 21 June 2026
